A little over a month ago Tachi and I headed off after selling our home in Port Melbourne and reimagining life. Our travels have paused us here, in Varsity Lakes, Qld. We are popping in to visit my Aunt and help out a little bit before she has an operation in July. Every morning we discover new spaces to sniff and explore. Since leaving Melbourne we’ve mainly stayed on the quieter routes, avoiding the city centres so being in a built up area is a shake up to the old system, but hey, it’s lovely, really lovely.
Along the way we have been doing readings and visiting special friends and turning off into the odd small towns - and there are plenty of those. We’re learning how to find parking spots and intuitively checking in with how it feels… does it feel safe, is there anything I need to know about this place. Listening to my inner guidance has become a new level of awareness and I’m really happy with the trust that we’re building.
We stop and rest along the way when we’re not reading and catch up with website work, study and looking at routes to take for the next leg of our journey. We really don’t have a final destination in mind… we’re just allowing life to unfold. There are all sort of emotions that I’ve been experiencing… anxiety, fear, excitement, awe, loss, openness, confusion, bliss … and the list goes on. I’m here for it all!
We love our new home named “Eleanor”. She is a Mercedes Sprinter, 7.5m long (apx) and completely fitted out. I purchased her from an amazing couple, Brian and Denise, in South Melbourne and they have looked after her so well. I’ve been given all the insights to the van that I could ask for. Although I’m still learning how to use everything! The solar/battery setup is still a mystery to me :). Filling the water tank, emptying the loo and grey water, gas for the hot water. There’s a shower and toilet and a cook top (that I keep in the bottom draw and have only used once). I have more room that I could ever use.
There’s no tv so I read and write a lot and watch Youtube on my phone. ‘Alone’ SBS was recommended by a friend (thanks Shannon :) and I have loved it! Watching van lifers share their stories has become my new interest. Walking Tachi on extra slow meanderings is divine. She is the best travel buddy.
I shared on Insta a while back that I was stopped in my tracks with my inner voice saying… ‘Why do you keep fighting this? You can stop now’…. two days after this happened I put my home on the market and here we are now. I’ve stopped fighting… no more paying the mortgage, paying rates, bank interest rates, power, water, gas. Yes, there are bills attached to living the van life but the fight is now a friendship.
There was a moment when I was getting to know the van and had a timeline intersect where I had done this before, I’d lived in this van, we already knew each other. I asked why am I doing it again? And I heard, ‘so that you can enjoy the ride this time’.
So that’s what we’re doing, we’re enjoying the ride. Tachi sends her love to everyone and loves van life as much as I do :)
The places we’ve visited so far… VIC - Daylesford, NSW - Albury, Tumut, Talbingo, Cooma, Narooma, Huskisson, Mollymook, Picton, Blackheath Glen/Blue Mountains, Port Macquarie, Lennox Head, Mullumbimby, QLD - Springbook/Lamington National Park, Tweed Heads, Burleigh Heads, Varsity Lakes… We’ll head further north next week…
Readings are still available online or if we are in your area let me know and we can organise a face to face reading in the van. I will post to Insta every few months to keep our tarot work updated. People often ask “are you still doing readings”… tarot is my constant companion, I’ll always be doing readings :)
Thanks for travelling with us, we love your company x
